All the spam weve been getting is generally done by automated scripts. Ive now hacked up and added an anti spam thing to the registration page so automated scripts shouldnt work and the spammers will only be able to register and post manually.

Its one of those ones which generates an image of some text which you then type in.

We were getting as many as 10-20 registrations a day for companies giving themselves backlinks from our memberlist. Hopefully this should now reduce!

Im the web admin for a internet community thing. Spam is the bane of my existance.

I handed my job to two enthusiastic members, after watching over 200 bots sign up..overnight.

do you not have an auto generated picture word on your signup page? We have one (as this post was originally describing) and that cut the spam by 95%. The only spam we get now is from people who manually register.

Now that I have removed the ability to enter a web address when initially registering (the whole point of spamming in the 1st place), I'm hoping it will reduce spam even more.

I could disabled the homepage box altogether but i dont want to remove the ability from genuine people who want to promote theirs.
