Hello all!
I've kinda gotten offered a job in the UK, a job I really really would like to do, but.. the salary compared to Norway is very low.
I need some help from you guys, and help me calcuate stuff.
I've gotten offered about 25k£ a year, which is probably fair in UK terms, but only about 3/5 of what I earn right now.
However, Norway is the most expensive country in the world, so cost of living is much much lower in the UK.
So, I have some questions if anyone can answer:
Is it true that you pay about 18% tax? We pay around 36% atm.
I would like to rent my own place, and so far at sites like rightmove and such they are around 500-600 £ a month. Is there any other good sites? I heard Gumtree is a bit dodgy.
I would like to have fiber connection or cable (unlimited), any particular providers I should go for?
I have studyloans to pay off here, so I need to figure out how much I have left for food and beer after I've paid everything.
Any tips are welcome!

Income tax is 20% , for Internet we have had no problems with TalkTalk but out here in the sticks we don't have fibre optic yet so for super dooper speed its probably Virgin or BT .

Mhm, Im not used to that you have to pay extra for traffic, so anything else besides unlimted is weird for me.
20% is still 16% better than what I pay then.

Sorry ... The Internet we get is unlimited you don't pay extra , its just on old copper/whatever phone lines so not as fast as if you lived somewhere with fibre optic .

Where will you live? £500-600 a month for your own place seems quite cheap to me. You need to add council tax onto the rent - it is paid to the local council to cover services such as waste disposal etc. Think it is usually around £1000+ per year - but if you live alone you get a discount (25% discount I think) - so budget maybe £800 per year. You pay it monthly.
You need to estimate gas, electric and water costs (you might not have gas if the heating is electric).

Hmm, I would probably rent a place first, before buying it. So isn't that usually covered by the Landlord? Thats how it works here anyway.
I just pay for electricity, internet/tv. Water and waste diposal services are paid by the landlord.
I will live probably somewhere around Bracknell.

Just check the council tax. Sometimes it is included but it's expensive if you have to pay and you didn't expect it!

Right, I got an offer, which I will most likely accept just have to figure out some stuff..
Any tips on Banks/Mobile subscriptions I should go for if I move down there?

I have been with First Direct bank for years with no problems , they are only online or phone though , and currently I am on the 3 mobile network again with no problems and excellent coverage .
