WCG have changed their minds and have decided to use 1.6 as the game of choice for the 2006 event.

WCG statement:

"In addition, the Counter-Strike competition has been changed from ‘Source’ to ‘1.6’ to facilitate better operation of tournaments leading up to the Grand Final. This move comes as a result of player feedback on the World Cyber Games website following last year’s successful event in Singapore."

It's true, 1.6 is better. But CS: Source looks prettier. Not that that really means anything in multiplayer. I've even found a 1.6 CS server in Dubai that I can play at a good speed.

its true, cs 1.6 is ment for gameplay, where as source is just for gfx tbh!

it's not so much it's ment for GFX, it is ment for plability and brining realism to games, it's the next step forward, and will always be met with contention, for a starter the deamds on hardware alone are expensive.

but it's like going from cs 1.3 - 1.5 and then onto 1.6 it's always met with contention, but it's just keeping the games up to date and pushing forward with new technologies and ideas.

id play source more often if i had a nice gfx card, untill then i'll leave it be.

i can play source too, but not at an exceptionaly level, and i cant justify upgrading my machine to myself yet.

you could run it on als machine but with dual sli 7800gtes and it run at 1,000,000,000,000fps and it would still be a sh*t GAME.

I can play Source perfectly, but there's never anyone on any of the Source servers that are around here. There's a perfectly good 20 person CS:S Server sitting running empty right here in Bahrain. Never seen any more than one person playing it.

I much prefer playing source, I know not every one likes it and thus thats why there is still 1.6

But for me as a part time player and a level designer source is 500 times better.

That's a little excessive Des! 1.6 is better for multiplayer gameplay yes, but technically CS:S steals the show, and for level designers it offers a quantum leap in possibilities. If you were ever going to make a CS movie, you'd have to do it in Source. Give it a couple of years, mass-market technology will catch up and most people will switch to Source.

Personally, source is still very much in development in my eyes. Think about how sh*t CS 1.0 would be now. I think sooner or later 1.6 will give way to source when it gets better (and dev will stop on the old CS). The whole physics thing adds an extra dimention to gameplay (i.e. you can shoot the gun on the floor away from someone etc).

It is going to take time however, and I agree that 1.6 is still better at the moment.

To be truefull I know a HUGE amount more about games then you but I prefer source.
Personally I find the levels for source much better then 1.6 Not just in looks but also some of the levels have been blanced better as well.

I think that any one who writes in all caps should be shot!

well the fact I've been gaming since I was 5, I've played on every major console, and own a huge number of them as well. I've been gaming with home computers since I had a spectum and continued to use home computers though the Amiga / Atari days and have now moved onto the PC platform.

I have worked on mods levels and assets and remakes for numerous games as well as programmed for the GBA, SNES and PC.

As well as tested a number of released games.

Do I need to say more?
