Well I finally got and played the CS: Lost Coast level last night... something of a disappointment. Graphics all look beautiful and the commentary mode is pretty interesting, but the level is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYY too short! It's taken them MONTHS to do THIS?! I was expecting to be able to explore the whole little cliff top town with some actual intelligent enemies coming at me from all sides, but NO. A five minute run-through level with enemies as stupid as before... bah. And what's more, you can cheat at the end, jump the invisible 'trip' that activates the helicopter and drop down onto the scaffolding below to end the level with ease.

Well anyway, point is what a disappointment. Come on Valve... pretty graphics and clever physics alone do not a game make. Anyone know a decent one player Mod out there for HL2 to make up for this?

!!WHAT THE f**k!!

I played though it I thought it was F'ing amazing, they said fromt the start it was a SHORT TECH DEMO of HDR, the lighting it used which was so good to look at.

Most of the time was most likey taken up with them trying to optomise and fix any bugs in the HDR system seeing they needed to write all of the shaders all of the lighting code and all the water code. Not an easy task.

I played it though 3 times in the first day because it was so much fun.

Pah!

Well I still say it was a tad disappointing. My head did spin a bit at the explanations of the coding they had to do to get it to look as good as it did - like accurately simulating the way the human eye adjusts to darkness, or the multiple passes it takes to get the water to reflect and refract correctly – and the stained glass windows in the Church. And I played it about three times too. But I just expected it to be a bit longer than THAT. Particularly as there's clearly a really cool looking town on the other side of the bay – it would have been awesome to be able to explore the whole area.

Oh well... roll on HL3.

Valve are going to work on a number of expansion packs for a while then start on a whole new game.

I have no idea why people kept beleving it was going to be this huge tech demo game?

at least you got to play it, with most tech demos all they do is give you a video and say here watch this, you might be bale to play a game with it in about 4 years.

It's a moderately silly question... when the commentary is turned on the enemy fire has no impact on the player. When commentary is turned off, it does. But just barely, because they're so bloody stupid you can kill them before they get much health off you anyway. Except for the helicopter that is.
