Well i got my last Archos player.. lemme find it...
here
...from Tottenham Court Road. The list price was £450 for that, but the way to shop down there is to MAJORLY haggle. Go in to one shop, ask them the price - then go to the the next and get them to beat it (rinse and repeat). Its a lengthy process but the few hours are worth it.
Got that for £300 in the end.
I plan to do the same with this.
It's obviously more expensive than the last one, but i expect to get the same kind of reduction.
On a side note, (and i have been saying this for fookin years, but no-body wants to know), that Archos are the ORIGINAL manufacturers of the portable mp3 HDD players, and have always been one step ahead of everyone else in the way of quality and technology. Its just that they don't seem to spend that much on marketing. Dunno why tbh. I know they rock from experience.

Well they where not the first, the first was a small company that sold you all the parts and you just added a hard drive.
I did think of getting an archos a while ago, but I felt the older style ones had a bad screen and a cluncky menu system.
I much perfer my Creative Zen.

I like my mini Ipod. Small and holds enough for common usage.

indeed.
i wouldnt mind opinions on what to get. basically im looking to spend upto/around £150 and I want 20gb or more.
I was impressed with the zen xtra I got my dad but the only big issue I had was plugging it into the car stereo line in, the sound quality was rather cack once the volume was loud enough to hear it.
i want one with line out but no one does it.
so then I saw that sony at argos website but its out of stock everywhere and blatantly not back in stock as the NWHD3 is out.
so choices are:
Novatech N-pod 20gb (good customer reviews) - £128
Zen xtra 20/30/40gb approx 140-160 ish
Zen touch (replacement for xtra), smaller and very very smart - probably 160-180 ish? but not really checked prices.
then above my price limit, Ipod but not at all interested, sony NWHD3 (£200+)
wow what a long post
opinions welcome, this is my very very very very precious and in demand cash im thinking of spending so want to get it right.

I would go for a zen xtra (not the touch they are not meant to be too great), I got a casset adaptor for my zen when I had my van and I got a surprisingly good sound out of it.
