I have been having problems with disconnections and lag with Aion recently and sent a game advisor note to NCSoft tech guys they replied with the following -
1. Press and hold the Windows key and then hit the R key. This should bring up the Run dialog box.
2. Type "MSCONFIG" without the quotes, and click "OK". This should open the System Configuration Utility.
3. Go to the "Startup" tab and click the "Disable All" button.
4. Next go to "Services" tab and check the "Hide All Microsoft Services" check box, then click the "Disable All" button.
5. Once these items are all disabled, click the "OK" button and you will get a prompt to restart your computer. Please restart your computer.
And if that does not correct the issue then I would suggest you remove the router and run a hard line from the system straight to the modem. Once this is done be sure to power reset the modem and reboot the system.
If this does not work then send us an updated Game Advisor report.
Before I do any of this, what exactly am I doing ? looks like I am switching everything off , so would I still be protected with AVG etc.? or completely open to any tom dick or harry hacker?

OMFG thats bad - theyre telling you to disable every non-MS service on your machine, which will include AV. I wouldnt if I were you, but you could go through the list and see which ones dont look essential to you (or post a list here and we can tell you)...

right, here is a list of services, including those that can be safely disabled.

here is a program that helps ping... sometimes it's a lot, sometimes it's just a bit, but worth trying it :)

turning off all services is a big no no, as you mention antivirus software sets itself as a service, as does steam, punkbuster... lots of things

Jeez, what idiots. And no wonder accounts get stolen so often cause people turn off their anti virus protection and anything else they might like starting with Windows
