Not to sure if people already know about this but anyway.

I just bought an I-Plate which goes in your BT Master socket and filters out the Bell Wire and gives you improved speeds on ADSL.

The I Plate is about 10 quid and is only neccasry on older line installations ie probably not last 12 years.

So anyway I bought that and Top Range ADSL Filter and have just managed to improved my download speed by about 900k totaly worth it for 10 quid

presumably this just does what people have done for years anyway, which was to manually disconnect the bell wire in the socket.

did it yonks ago when i lived with my folks and they first got adsl, did make a difference although they always had a very good connection as only about 100-200m from the exchange.

aye its a pain in the arse to do and i think illegal as it means fiddling with the master socket, a product you can just buy and plug in is very clever

yeah, manually disconnecting it is illegal aparently (anything behind the plate is BT property). This is a totally legal solution for removing the ringwire, plus the additional (unused) 4th cable.

Interesting. How do you know if a socket is openreach or not?

Ours has a little hammer icon in the corner. That it ?

wondering if that little device could boost my 200kbps up some more.
