I read an article last night which was saying how HL2 is gonna run sh*t on nvidia cards and ati radeons can out perform nvidias cards by up to double the framerate or more! Some big problem with the nvidia engine... as well as that some 1337 kiddies from MIT managed to get an nvidia demo which was only ever supposed to run on a geforce card to run on a radeon and the radeon got better framerates!!! Its all down th the nvidias havin some problem with DX9 - DX8 theres not much between the companies but it seems if u wanna buy a brand new DX9 card that the radeon is the one to go for...
Im a staunch nvidia supporter, but after having read that article (and considerin im savin up to buy a new gfx card next month) i think i may be biting the bullet and goin for an ati...

ye - im the same demon. when i looked at graphics cards again i was very tempted to buy an ATi card rather than my usual nVidia card buys. however i stayed with nvid cus £40 for a new 5200 was to good to pass up at the time. when and if i get a high end card i will again have a look at the ATi tho as they seem to offer better rates than nvids now

Nvidia are saying that the new 50.x drivers are ment to be MUCH better with DX9 programs, but w will just have to see.
Im running a GF4Ti 4600 so Im not going to get all that DX9 nicness any way but at least it will run very well with out that stuff.

i dont think i believe that crap bout the 5x drivers, i think its jus another load of propagana from nvidia to reassure us...again, theyre cards have never really performed amazingly well, its just theyve had no competition =/

tbh, i have never had a problem with ATI, and they have always been renowned to out-perform any competition in recent years. (Go to http://www.pcpro.co.uk/ and look at the lab tests for graphics cards they did recently)
Admitedly, they do cause problems when trying to use them with Linux, but if you don't then i really don't see what is so great about nvidia as an alternative.
Unless Nvidia produce a card that massively out-performs ATI's flagship card (the 9800 pro) without a come-back from ATI, then i would always turn to ATI and recommend the cards to anyone.
I own a 9800pro and a 7500, and neither card has ever failed me.

Technically ATi are supperior - and i've always tended to be an nvid fan. However for me personally linux support is defiiatly a big plus and thats one thing ATi has failed to recognise, that with an ever expanding user base and nothing but generic graphics drivers for that community no matter how much ATi are better people like me may simply goto nvid cus of the support.
When i got my new card i looked at 2 things - bang for buck, what card could i get cheapest to tide me over till i have more money? and support - in all it ment nvid won at the end of the day and i dont regret getting the card - its ace, but when i go for high performance game monster card i may well go for ATi next time

I started my compyting life liking ATi, when my mach64 2D card poweredmy old computer (a 133). But when I got my second computer it came with a Rage XL which couldn't even out perform a Voodoo1 card, and since then I never wanted to go back. But now, Hmmm, The new GFX cards are nice but it's going to be atleast 1/2 a year before I would even consider getting a new GFX card but It might have to be a ATi if they keep up with what they are doing.

I have both so... I don't care :)
But I am more ATI than Nvidea as Nvidea have dropped the ball big time with the crappy FX.
Where as ATI have been having a big push and are lot friendlier to talk to the NVIDEA.
Anyway moot point I think the HL2 thing was a bidding war by Valve to see how much money they could get from ATI or NVIDEA for card and game bundles.

lmao, yes, no way is it worth the money, the performance gain really isnt that great compared to the geforce 4's, and they dont even compare to the raddys, poor nvidia, poor poor work.
