Ok chaps. I'm pretty sure some of you have got experience with professional WIFI installs so I've got a wee question..
Can you recommend a good WIFI signal tester? ie a wee handheld thingy that will tell me how stong a wifi signal is. I've seen some gimmicky end-user type ones but I want something more robust that wont break in me toolbag.
To extend my network range throughout a thick sandstone walled hotel would I be better..
A. Attaching more wifi APs where needed using CAT5 to my main router?
B. Using wifi repeaters where needed? (works like a daisy chain so not hard wired, just extend the range by passing data through)
C. Doing something else?
Oh and I'm doing the site survey tommorrow so I need the recommendations for the signal finders by 5 - 5.15 today! :)
Consider yourselves challenged!

I don't know much about it, but my Airport Express works perfectly with my laptop through concrete walls, and I've read good things about the whole Apple Airport system, which is so damn easy to set up, even a blind idiot with no thumbs could do it. Need to extend the range? Just buy another express plug. PC and Mac compatible, plus it can plug into your stereo, so you can wirelessly stream music from anywhere in your house (which is why I bought it.)

A + C, use additional AP's and if you want to avoid having to hardwire it to your main router use mains
Powerline Bridge. clean job minimal if any wiring.

Right Cheiff seeming as i work in a hotel and we have full coverage I would recomend a piece of software of norwegian orgin that allows you to map a room and works out signal everywhere in it from walking round for quick tests i use either laptop with net stumbler or pda with mini stumbler we have our AP setup running from Power over Ethernet Switches which are linked to the server for the service. However we do have a few AP not running on the POE switches and they use power over ethernet injectors to give power. The system works really well and requires very little maintance. The Access Points we are using are virtullay the same as cisco's but a lot cheaper about 140 quid each and we user 4 per floor i think it is so they get a really good range indoors.

chieff hows it going with the wifi by the way you should get them to get wireless voip phones and get them running of the access points we currently have a really expensive Pager system and these phones are hopefully going to replace them as they are cheaper and we got really good coverage in most areas
