ok i think my fan is fuct on my lappy... ok u no how i had fps probs... well other day i found out i cud adjust my fan speed. i dropped it from 5(performance) to 3.. 1 is quiet...when i dropped it to 3 it fixed the prob but now it being gay again ...

i cant open my lappy as it a sony and a cunnt,, but i can get inside by lifting up the keyboard and i can sorta see the fan.. i tried a vacum but didnt work.. im gonna get some of the compressed air aerosol from maplin and blast inside of lappy try to dislodge and dirt and grime..

also i was wondering can i use like wd40 on the fan so that i lubes it up a bit... or will that f**k my pc if i do that...

anyone else have any ideas on what prob cud be if not fan or any ideas on cleaning fan if i cant get to it propperly

never tried wd40 b4 - id say yeah, just be careful and use the straw thing to make sure you only get it on the fan and youll b fine...

I'm not sure but if you're going to try and lube the fan with anything I would have thought switch lubricant would be better than wd40, or maybe silicone lube as it's non greasy.

edit: switch lube because it's designed to clean and increase conduction on metal contacts.

you might need to replace the fan if it's totally f**ked: that happened to me on my old gfx card...

thats the other thing, once a fan is fcked, they dont tend to be repairable. you might get it spinning again well but chances are it will be like having a tumble drier on your desk!

DONT use WD40 m8 as it attracts dust and you end up with a gooey mess , for years i used it on motorbike cables, chains , links etc but a mechanic told me its one of the worst lubes to use . Only thing id say is if posible strip it down and clean it by hand . If not poss then your f**ked .

use electrical switch cleaner pop down to your local maplins and get a can
best thing to do is strip the laptop down take the fan out and then clean it or replace

agree with wom about wd40, used it on my mountain bike, gears and that just get dust stuck toi them and require cleaning more,
