not if you install over the top but i wouldnt reccomend that. The best thing is to backup all your data to CD or another pc then reinstall. Another way to do it is to get something like partition magic and use it to create a second partition on your main HDD. Then copy your important data to that partition and wipe your initial one to install windows over...

or just dont worry about the product key, you can still get updates with a dodgy one

hang on - you can just change your product key without reinstalling windows, because you needed to do it to install sp1 and sp2 on dodgy keys.
its actually part of windows which allows you to do it.
ive got the key changer file around somewhere if you want it.

You can reinstall windows completely using your key as long as it's the same version of XP. (eg home / pro - update or complete)
Each set of keys is for one version alone. Should should be able to acitvate your copy of xp with your key (and gett he updates) about 20 times before MS start to wonder about your key.

There is another way of being able to reinstall windows without losing data.
If you partition your drive with say 5G on c: and the rest on the other partition say D, then save all work and stuff on D.
When you come to reinstall at a leter date, it just formats C and leaves D alone, therefore not losing any data on D.
Did any of that make sense???

Have you ever seen me play in a match, or turn up to praccy??
I don't have the time to play matches and commit to praccy's, so it's not fair if i play in matches, so i chose to be an honary member, becos i been with the clan for so long.
