Right just recieved a letter informing me that i've been using my so called "unlimted" 1 smeg package too much. So im a tad annoyed with them.
Currenty im with plusnet (avoid like the plague)
Im not too fussed about price just aslong as it isnt stupidly expensive.
I need a monthly contract ( as i have no idea if im gonna move etc).
unlimited bandwidth
1smeg
What do you recomend?

they do but if you leave within 12months you have to pay the activation fee (approx £60)
with the exception of virgin.net, you'll either have to pay the activation at the start of the contract, or it will be waived unless you leave within 12months.
personally I would go for eclipse, or metronet (because its cheaper if you have a light use month but has a max cost per month so its still ok to rape the bandwidth).

basically, I would check the following out, work out which is cheapest, and go for it, I dont think you'll have problems with any of them:
nildram, pipex, freedom2surf, eclipse, metronet, high velocity.

oh and metronet, for 1mb, it costs £11.70 ex vat for 200mb per month, then the cost goes up for usage, upto 5120mb for £22.77 ex vat max cost. so if you had a really light month it would cost you less.

I say go for Pipex, have been using em for about 3 years now, had a contract with them when i moved to Glasgow that I cancled within the 12 months and they never said anything about a termination fee or anything (I said that I was moving house/flat, I think thats cool, they might get pissed if you just want to leave for someone else).
Pipex are the longest running ISP apparently, and are usually in the top 5 ISP's in the UK. I have never had a problem with them saying I use the connection too much. I can count on one hand the number of times it has gone down in those 3 years so thats gotta be good. Plus they are cheap.

2 more votes for pipex here. why 2 well both me and my mate use pipex and cant fault them, speeds are always fast and i DL a fair bit but my m8 at times downloads a several Gb a week and there's never been a moan from them, they just take your money and give you a good speed unlimited net connection. ive been with them 2 yrs now and my m8 has been with them 3 yrs

yep its generated when you request it and valid for 30 days iirc.
it replaced CBUK numbers last year which were permanently allocated to an adsl account i think.
