Hi there guys,

Need some opinions on free software to backup hard-drives.
Now i know there is alot out there, and i also know that Windows comes with backup software.
However, i need some software that won't just backup files and folders, but will take a 'snapshot' of the hard drive, so that if my C drive blows up, i can just insert another disc and put the 'snapshot' straight back on the the disc as if nothing had happened.

I know that Norton do this kind of thing with 'Norton Ghost', but anyone know how i can get something similar for free?
Cheers guys.

You can, yes.
But you can't back up and restore system files on mapped drives.

'You can only back up the System State data on a local computer. You cannot back up the System State data on a remote computer. '

Cut and past directly from BackupNT help file.

This step-by-step article describes how to use the Windows 2000 Backup program (Ntbackup.exe) to back up the system state data of a remote Microsoft Windows 2000-based computer. By design, Ntbackup.exe only backs up the system state of the local computer. This article describes how to work around this limitation.
