For anyone looking for a smart home media player without the need to build/buy a media centre pc, I've just got a Western Digital WD TV Live. So far I'm thoroughly impressed. It picks up network shares of music and video from my pc and 1080p video looks top notch on the tv. Next on the list will be a NAS drive to store the media on the network without needing my pc turned on.

looks good, it plays x264 as well?

I have a small form factor Dell pc that I got for £60 on ebay as my media PC under the telly. Wouldnt mind one of those though!

Yeah, it's played everything I've thrown at it.

1080p Bluray rips look awesome - my pc can't even handle playing them but that thing runs them fine and it's tiny.

Now I just need Sony to add iPlayer and 4oD to my shiny Bravia TV and I'll be sorted
