Ok - win 7 would solve a lot of my problems agreed but not the answer I'm looking for.

I have a PC I need to reinstall, it's got a genuine win vista key (although I believe it may be OEM), the PC is out of warranty so manufacturer wants to know nothing and the backup disc won't work because the mobo has been replaced.

so, is it possible to get a Win Vista Home Premium disc for somewhere (will MS even help me out? MSDN possibly?), unaltered, that I can use to reinstall this system. I already know I'm gonna have a battle with MS to get them to accept I've changed the motherboard but going pirate is an option I would prefer to avoid.

suggestions anyone?

Stuart

You can get a home premium OEM from piratebay or somewhere and use the genuine key you have. It should install and be legit I have just done this for my niece. I used a Dell OEM copy on her sony laptop and then verified it online without problem.

yeah, the piratebay would be a goodplace to look, or isohunt.com,
tho' you could get vista ultimate, and crack it, it will still be able to update and everything.
windows 7 is better tho'. looks nicer, easier to use, uses same resources, and runs much faster.
