pc keeps restarting or BSODing. any ideas?
processor isnt over heating.
voltages look like they are a bit dodgy, as in 5v is constantly too low and 12v constantly too high, but i thought it had always been like that.

hmmm suspect it could be a motherboard problem.
the motherboard smart software shows the case temperature to be flicking between 23 24 25 degrees every second which it didnt used to do. and the voltages are all over the shop, the +5V is flicking between 4.46 4.54 4.78.
think my pcs telling me to finally f**king upgrade, but i cant really be arsed, nor afford it.
will try reseating everything tomoro night.

try a new psu or if you can borrow 1 just to test it out, if possible remove some of the load ie extra hard
disks, and cd drives to see if that makes a difference

yeah, again that sounds like a psu problem - they can degrade over time and get all sh*tty all of a sudden (especailly the cheaper ones).
Just to be sure, download "windows memtest" and test you ram for a while (at least 200%). If memtest doesnt kick up any errors it's not a ram problem.
also, as gama said unplug all unnessary periferals, like extra hdd's, cd-rom, even sound cards and anything you can that you don't need to run your pc. chances are it will be a bit more stable.
I might upgrade again soon (after christmas) so I might be able to sell you a amd64 3700+, a mobo (either agp or pci-e) and some ram if you like. I'll throw in my old agp geforce 6800 for real cheap (because I think it's f**ked).

90% causes of blue screens are either faulty powersupplies or memory.

well i unplugged all unnecessary sh*t earlier (1 hard drive, 1 cdrw, 2 case fans) and so far no crashes, and the smart utility looks like my voltages are all more stable.
so guess i have to buy another f**king psu. only had this one less than a year but i doubt i have the receipt.
(pcworld - that will teach me. but had no choice at the time unfortunately)

be willing to spend a bit on a psu - the cleaner the power the longer your pc will last. Also you wanna make sure you get a PSU qhich supports BTX - that will be the standard in a couple of yrs...

yeah, I agree...don't cheap out with the psu's. If you get a good one now, you won't have to get one for ages. I got mine 7 months ago, cost me £100 or so, but it has BTX so will be cool for upgrading later

I bought one for £70 last year but I have no idea if it has BTX. What exactly is BTX?

BTX is the new case standard (current one is ATX), it also includes a few other changes such as the new power connector standard (4 extra pins I beleve).
