Can someone explain to me, simply, how to share some folders in XP, without having to use the Shared Documents folder?

If I disable simple file sharing then share my music folder, the other pcs on the network need a password to access. I just want to share a folder with read only access to the other machines.

This is everything I have tried over and over, but everytime it asks for a password on the other machines.

in that case create a new login guest account on your machine called readonly with a pwd of readonly

then give people that account to log in with... (more secure)

either that or re-enable simple file sharing which youve probably disabled:

tools > folder options > view > Use Simple file sharing (at the bottom of the list)

it will be something like in the permissions of the shares you need to add like workgroup user's or mshome user's or summit like that we had issues last year occasionaly with sh*t like that and also if some idiot use to use a firewall on there computer it would f**k the network as no one could access anyones files then
