I think I need to get a new laptop for doing my games programming on the train for my master thesis. I spend 2 hours a day sitting on the train (currently watching Anime and TV on my PSP) when I should really be doing work on my masters. Basically, I need a pretty decent laptop, not really needing something crazy with dual core crap on it...but good enough to say - run half life 2 and such getting above 30-40 fps (at least 512MB of RAM). It has to have at least a 3 hour battery life, and hopefully be quite small and cost less than £1000.
Does anyone know what websites I can check to find refurbished or really cheap laptops?

Dude get a laptop like mine, tablet PC's are great.
technoworld
Thats where I got mine from.
but for £1000 you can get some very sweet laptops, hell you could even get an apple and put XP on it.
but do not go DELL.

why not Dell? I was looking at their dual core thingies for arround 700, that would suit me fine! Don't really want a mac...although if i can put XP on it I would definatly give it more thought...put bang for buck I think Dell is the smart option.

yeah DELL are generally over priced, they look good untill they start adding all the extras onto the price.
Acer are a good make.

tbf my lappy (you remember - i bought in our final year at uni) is still runnng strong. I bought a 512mb sodimm for it the other day so it has 768mb now... I take it to work every day as we have an additional wireless adsl router in the office (unrestricted) so I can access whatever I want, even from work!

I am really tempted by that dual core Dell lappy....mmmm....Dual core....would be perfect for my dissertation, a gig of ram, and only 2.5KG...sounds like just what I need. Now the only problem is the price :( Not sure if I can afford to get into more debt, but if I don't, I cant see me getting my Masters for AGES...:(

A friend got a good spec labby from a refurbished ACER it was £500 and a rele good spec, the only thing wrong with it was the GFX card (think it was a 9200 or something).
Anyway, I buy CustomPC regularly and to tell the truth I think it is the best mag for computers out there. Anyway they did a review a while ago on the Rock Xtreme CT and rated it very highly. It would definatly meet ur requirements but it's £1500.
www.rockdirect.com
I guess you can customize it as that model had a Geforce 7800GTX Go in the spec. But I'd take a look anyway.
