At the moments ive got 120gb and 40gb IDE drives plus DVD and CDRW drives so all my IDE jobbies are used up.

so quick question

bearing in mind i plan to build a new computer some time this year if i ever save the funds, i wondered if you can get sata pci cards? so i could buy a sata drive and not have a redundant 40gb ide drive. if so is it worth it and many notes will it set me back

ta muchly

it wont be redudant as you still have a ide controller on your mobo for you cd/dvd rom etc. also you can buy sata controllers (pci) although im not sure on the capabilities of these things as ive never used one.

not really worth wasting your money tho tbh... £40 - you could get a new mobo for that with SATA onboard!

obviously unless i have just 1 cd/dvd drive.

or you simply keep the 40gb drive for your old machine which you then convert into a spare...

OR - you simply use an IDE to SATA convertor which you often get with new SATA boards (I got one with my DFI Lanparty)...

OR - save your money and spend it when you can afford the board and processor too...

best place to get Sata cards is Ebay. you can pick them up for a tenner.
