Now then lads. aint been on for a while but as soon as i started thinkin about this i thought you lads would be the people to ask!

I've finally decided to network my computers (98se old beast, and 2 xp machines) They bin running on a router for ages but wouldnt talk to each other. Now i got the New xp machine picking up the 98 one, but the 98 cant see the xp machine ... thats a problem in itself if anyone has came across it?

But what im worried about now is security. Is the fact im now sharing all my hdds on the machines going to make it easier to access for hackers etc, because there is alot of sensitive documents on there from my dads company etc.... Just wondering this because microsoft gave me some warnings about security etc. Was thinkin about getting a physical firewall inbetween the router and the wall...would that work or be a waste of money? cheers in advance lads!

Your router should have a built in firewall that should be enough to keep people out. plus the shared drives will not leave the network.

98 and networking is never a fun time, I have always seemed to have troubles with it.
