My niece got home from school in tears last night after opening a document she had been working on and finding someone had altered it to make comments about her and her mum , my questions is this is it possible to find out what time a document was accessed/changed? the Document was in Word as far as I know .

right!
First off, how is the documetn accessed?
1) If it is hosted on a website, you can contact the website host and cite your reason for requiring the list of ip's connected to the site/place at the time required/day, which should be viewable by right clicking the file and seeing date last modified as said above.
2) If it is a school system file like my old one, you needed to login to get onto the system. This means there will be a login from whoever did it, at whatever time, and the school themselves should they have a competant IT admin, should be able to find it.
3) If its a open system that anyone can get onto, your best bet is talking to the school themselves and reporting it.
4) If its a shared system, get the names of everyone who has access to it and then you will have to interview them or find some way of questioning them, but one will be hte culprit.
5) If they left the computer on unattended then your not likely to find who did it.

Things got overtaken this week , father in law went into hosp. and sadly passed away tonight. I emailed your suggestions to her but I think we will have to wait a while to see if anything gets done .
