Most people here that know me well will know i'm a bit of a martial arts freak... and I like this guy - he's a good teacher, but 1 thing he taught there is likely to get you hurt worse and it annoyed me enough to post!
His self-defense here is all about dealing with drunken fight situations - specifically in crowded bar rooms. The most important thing he didn't teach for this particualr situation is to END THE FIGHT QUICKLY! At one point he even talked about smashing the guys head in to the table 10 times before he said he would stop.
You can bet that any person in a pub will have a mate to back him up if he is getting a beating and whilst this guy was smashing the drunks head in, his mate will hit that guy over the back of his head.
I speak from experience too - still have the scar next to my eye after being punched round the side of the head by a mate of the guy i had pacified on the floor in a pub!

Ah the 'hit them in the back of the head when they're beating on someone' manouver, yeah I saw that one a few times in my hanging out in dodgy clubs phase. The funniest version I ever saw was someone who tried to stop someone rather large thumping their mate (don't ask me what for) and the mate tried to bottle him and ended up being taken to A&E with a large bit of glass sticking out of his wrist. Dunno what happened to him but there was a LOT of blood. So yeah, if you do divert your attention to one individual for too long in a bar fight someone will probably try and bottle you, but if you're really lucky they'll be too stupid to get it right :)

Heh Oxfordshire, believe it or not. Farm hands on pay day. Messy. Never regretted leaving the sticks and moving to Bristol!! The bar fights here are a lot rarer, suprisingly, you're more likely to be eviscerated by a scary woman with foot long talons for looking at her boyfriend here.
