Microsoft have an offer on to pre-purchase full retail copies (transferrable) of Windows 7 for a massively discounted price:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/blog/2009/jun/25/windows7-uk-prices
This is now available online (Amazon), prices at £45 for Premium (normally £150), and £90 for Pro (normally £220). I have bought one of each as this is an actual bargain, especially premium! The main things you get extra with Pro, are remote desktop host (TS), Windows XP mode (inc a built in XP licensed VM), a better backup centre, EFS, and can be added to domains. They have limited stock, so if you are going to buy, I recommend doing it soon…

Pro: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Microsoft-Windows-Professional-E-PC/dp/B002DUCMTC/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=software&qid=1247642996&sr=8-2
Note:
• The EU version doesn’t come with a browser so you have to install that manually after (antitrust laws stupidly applied by the EU). • DVDs for retail have both 32 and 64 bit on them, and you choose on install! Best thing is, I want 32 now but 64 later, so I can just reinstall with the same key in the future completely legally…

One thing - I just checked and it looks like Amazon may be out of stock already! Fortunately there are still copies available at the same price from PC World:

eBuyer also have some left "in stock", After running Win7 RC on my main machine I find it hard to go back to XP. I've not even installed any drivers or anything on the XP install I did at home, its been win7 100% of the time.

Well done MS for FINALLY producing a decent OS, yet still managing to charge for it.

It's not evil to charge people for something that works. But if a garage sold you a 'new' car that constantly broke down and always asked if if you really wanted to keep going every mile down the road, would you happily go back and pay again for them to fix it?

Its a good thing that software is not like cars or we would get no where; no mater who made it, it would have bugs and do random things when least expected. But I guess that is the difference between a mechanical and software.
