use this fix to save having to reinstall

goto the path \Program Files\Electronic Arts\Battlefield 2142

make sure you can view hidden files and then rename the file radial.cdb (i.e. oldradial.cab)
then start up bf2142 and it should create a new file problem solved.

Or, if it's easier, and like me you keep having problems with this file, you can create a batch file to auto delete it.

Create a .bat file in notepad and use the following text

cd "e:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\Battlefield 2142"
E:
attrib -r -a -s -h radial.cdb
del /f /s /q radial.cdb
start bf2142.exe
cls
exit

Replacing the first line with where your BF2142 is installed.
