Speed Cameras
Hi guys, got this sent through to the ambulance station and thought you might be interested to know that following the Governments freedom of information act you can now get access to ALL speed camera offences registered in the last 12 months.
Here is a bit of the information that came from the fax.
Did you know that every time your car goes past a speed camera, even 1 mph over the set limit it is registered and put on a database? You only get a ticket if you are way over the limit or, (this is the bit that I didn't know) if you receive over 20 near misses, you will be
classed as a serial offender and get a ticket the next time you go just over the limit. This is why you hear of people being done for 34 mph in a 30 limit area whilst
others doing 39 do not. You can check what has been registered against your vehicle at the following address:
http://www.e-database.co.uk
You will be asked for a password but just click on the need a Password link and you will be given one for future use.
If there is any other data held on your vehicle you can click on the camera window to see a copy of the photograph.
Hope this is useful, and it doesn't worry ya to much.

So everything he said was bull.
But is it actually true about near misses, that you have 20 chances

You have to remember that most speed cameras are still the old film based systems. and basicaly they have a 10% leway built into them to help compensate for the fact they come out of calibration.
But be on the look out for teh new digial speed cams. they were trialing a system in which they would work out your speed between speed cameras and thus work out if you were only slowing down to the speed limit when you spot them.

Theyre called time over distance cameras i think... theres quite a few of them in the midlands. You can recognise them cos its a thin pole sticking out with 3 cameras on it.
Also, i got my speeding ticket through... £60 and 3 points... not to bad considering I was doing 91...

SPECS they are called i think, theyve been used for ages.
and most speed cameras arent film based, just gatsos i think. theres lots of infra red digital ones, like the forward facing ones.

We followed a couple of bikers the other day, and they reached behind and tucked there number plates under there seats!!! must have the number plates on a hinge, it was very clever, and then they took off, never to be seen again!!!

the main reason is because most speed cameras are forward facing therefor as bikes dont have plates ontheir fronts they cant get your number so cant prosecute you. Bikes can only be caught by rear facing cameras.

The other thing is, a car can't be done by a forward faceing camera if it flashe's at you, due to the fact, when they were first installed, some guy had an accident cos he was blinded by the flash, took them to court and won. therefore you can't be prosecuted by a forward faceing camera.
