shamone, should be surfing on 4mb by the end of the year as telewest are upgrading their network to match ntl
512 becomes 2mb, 1mb becomes 4mb, the rest become 10mb.

sweet i need to get net sorted in preston for new house. any ideas on who to go wif i no ntl/bulldog/telewest and bt all in my area heard some complaints about bulldog, but it also cheapest i think
wot u recomend?

telewest 10mb will be £35 a month.
combine that with a tv package if you want it and its a good deal for students.
depends when that exchange gets upgraded, i guess they'll start with the big ones first, hoping newcastle will be high priority.
can you get ukonline? them or bulldog 8mb services are both good value.
dont even consider ntl because its capped.

I wish it would say what the upload will be. I guess it will stay at just under 400k

10 mb *download* bandwidth, I have 1.5 mbit, I only have 256 upload or something, if I lived a few kilomters further , I could have got 8mb down and up ..

With this flat we will max that 10mb pipe with ease.
and being Edinburgh (which telewest is the only cable group, and have a HUGE hold of) we should be high on the upgrade list.
It's just a pitty with TW's hardware (eg modems) 10mb is more or less the max speed. IT's 12mb if I remember rightly. which is just wrong when you think that the TV alone uses 42Mb of bandwidth to run.

still better than adsl which maxes out at 8mb, which BT wholesale are bringing out later this year hopefully.
they are also trialling adsl2+ soon which goes potentially to 24mbps but thats years off widespread installation.

it was in the news weeks ago that 24mbps is coming to soo as well. Cant really see me getting that, i am just happy with my 1mb

Witht eh flat that I live in the more the better.
plus it's don't just down to the speed of your line that effects ping, distance can play a prt in it too.
