Ok you budding game designers, I need to think of a simple game for my ps2 programming class.
It has to be a very simple game. I was thinking of harrio, i.e. a cheap crappy clone of old school Marrio (well, what do you think commader keen was?)
some alternative ideas would be good

I played a game recently that brought back memories...
That marble game where you control it going down lots of slopes and in to a hole at the end.

in monkeyball you control the level not the ball.
It all depends on what depth you are going into with the PS2, what level of 3D do you know? does the PS2 handel 2D via sprites or are they textures on a polygon? I need to know these things.

it was an old nes game , should be ok to program , was a wicked game and plus its not too harsh on the old blatant plagerism examples here

well I need to know what depth we could go into, and the main bit behind my question was is 2D easer then 3D or similar.

Why don't you make GTA5 - Europe?
Well... maybe not... but if you've played it you'll know that there's a few arcade games based on old (and fairly simple to code) games like asteroids, pong and space invaders - you could do one of those. There's even a pool game in 3D if you're feeling clever.
Good luck!

Your task is to demonstrate your understanding of Playstation 2 programming by creating an application which utilises and takes advantage of the hardware architecture of the console. You should choose the exact functionality of the application so as to best show off your understanding of Playstation 2 development. Possibilities range from a graphics demonstration program through to an interactive computer game. It is important, however, to emphasise that the application being written is targeted at the PlayStation2 games console and as such the program should be written in a manner which reflects and takes advantage of the architecture of this target machine.
The application must contain the following features::-
· User interaction via a control pad.
· Texture mapping.
· Vertex transformation clipping and lighting with Vector Unit 1.
You may also choose to implement some or all of the following features to enhance your application:-
· The use of VU0 in MACRO and/or MICRO mode.
The use of the floating point unit (FPU).

Oh, okay, so Pong and Space Invaders aren't really applicable... unless you do some kind of amazing 3D versions of them.
Another cool idea might be a parachute jump demo, where you can control the direction and speed of the jumper and the landing zone. Or something... I stole that idea from GTA too!
Good luck whatever you do! I haven't really done any advanced programming since I wrote a betting casino game for the Spectrum 48k. Still, with only 14 colours it was easier to demonstrate that it was written for that hardware...

I was thinking bowling....I don't think have to make a 3d game as you can still have essentially a 2d game using all or most of the above.
I just thought someone may have had a really good idea for a small game.

some kind of flight game, with a jet pack?
i dont know how limited by resource are you, there are a few things you could suggest like doing some kind of age of empires game or sim type game, but i dont know if you could do it,
how about an adaptation of risk or something

you can do a 2D game as 2D sprites are textures on a 4 point polygon :)
I don't think you want to do much 3D due to model making is a pain.
you could make something like this :-
you can use perfabs (box, priamid, torus) then put a texture on the sides, and use the vertex unit to put effects on the textures plasma etc :)
then use the pad to spin it, and selecting the shape.
it would be quicker then a game and you can add effects if you get time.

aye but not for the ps2. Some of the projects from the first term are exactly like uni project, only we're not using openGl, we are using directX which is better, but a little more complex. ps2 has its own api, but it's more or less C.
